Neighborhood food

One of the best things about this apartment was its proximity to amazing food. Yes, there are wonderful patisseries, fromageries, etc. everywhere in Paris. But we were in a particularly golden spot. Just down the street was a row of excellent food shops.

On the very first morning the neighborhood market was in full swing and, after a ridiculously early morning run around the Ile de la City and Ile St. Louis, Lisa brought breakfast back to the apartment:

A log of ash covered chevre with a straw down the middle (chosen because it looked so weird), 2 fougasse (leaf-shaped, hand formed bread) one with olives and one with lardons (fatty, delicious bits of bacon), and a charentais melon that was exceptionally sweet and perfumed.

The thing I love about lardons is that their name is the same as their effect on my body :-) I cannot begin to contain my jealousy.
